"SoundLift Berlin - New York" came about as a result of the musical collaboration between myself, and Berlin/New York drummer Joe Hertenstein.
Learning of my plans to visit Berlin in October 2021, Hertenstein suggested, and helped organize, a recording session with bassist Jan Roder, and the great pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach.
Following a seven hour trans-Atlantic flight, and five hour train journey, I found myself in the Keller4 Studio. Greetings exchanged, spirits imbibed, the music begins with Schlippenbach's fingers hovering intently over the piano keys. The creative state immediately takes hold, with all else "falling off". The great creative mystery ensues..
Four musicians, two continents, three generations. Past, present, future contained within. All in one. One for all.. This is what we do.
Can you feel the lift?

A very interesting album. At a few places I keep asking myself: Was this composed by Arnold Schönberg (or his disciples)? Anyway, I'm all for skilled musicians exploring the boundary (if one exists) between jazz and classical. Thumbs up! jyrki63
